MAHLE Aftermarket at SEMA Show 2023
Each year at the massive, trade-only, SEMA Show in Las Vegas, thousands of products for the automotive aftermarket are on display in exhibits and in high performance, on-track demonstrations by exhibitors from around the world.
MAHLE was founded in 1920. Then, in 2000, MAHLE Motorsport North America was established, bringing cutting edge technology to sportsmen and professional racers alike. MAHLE is a leading supplier of forged pistons and rings to race teams in nearly every top race series in North America and abroad.
With sales well over 13 billion dollars worldwide, over 70,000 employees, more than 150 production locations, five business units and 12 R&D centers, MAHLE’s future-facing strategy focuses on three fields: electrification, thermal management and components for efficient and clean internal combustion engines. The MAHLE Aftermarket business unit produces spare parts for the automotive aftermarket.
MAHLE POWERPACK Piston Sets from MAHLE Motorsport are designed for engine builders who demand high quality. They are complete forged piston sets, engineered and designed for performance/racing, and include the forged pistons, low drag rings, pins and clips. Engine families include Chevy, Ford, Mopar, Acura, BMW, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Toyota and VW/Audi. See: https://www.us.mahle.com/en/motorsports/powerpak-pistons/
The new Ford Godzilla 7.3L dish POWERPACK Piston Set from MAHLE Motorsport (CRS-22-011-NPS 10/21/2022) features a -20.5cc crown design and is made of 2618 aluminum alloy, slipper skirt forging with a hard-anodized top ring groove. It is designed for those enthusiasts who are trying to push the limits of their Ford Godzilla engine for very high-horsepower boosted or turbocharged builds — over a 200-pound shot of nitrous, 15 pounds of boost to the piston, for use in drag racing.
MAHLE’s relationship with Porsche dates back to Porsche’s beginning. Together they developed some of the best competition and sports car engines available throughout the past 90 years. MAHLE Motorsport North America has taken the extensive experience gained from its relationship with Porsche to develop a series of performance and racing piston and cylinder kits; therefore, there may be visual differences that are intentional and beneficial to the performance, durability and longevity of the components.
Featured at the MAHLE exhibit at the SEMA Show were the POWERPACK pistons for the Porsche 964/993 3.9L Stroker engine, designed for Porsche high performance enthusiasts and sportsman class racers.
A key function of engine bearings is to maintain minimal clearance between stationary and rotating parts, while reducing wear and power losses caused by friction. It is much less expensive to buy a set of main bearings and replace those when necessary than it would be to replace a block or a crankshaft.
Clevite engine bearings — the MAHLE brand for domestic applications — have been winning NASCAR sanctioned races since the very first NASCAR Championship in 1948, and have powered every NASCAR champion to Victory Lane since then, setting the pace for quality and reliability in the most demanding settings. MAHLE bearings are available in five series (H, C, F, V and M), optimized for specific applications.
MAHLE TriMetal engine bearings have an exclusive three-layer design to reduce drag and increase horsepower. MAHLE TriArmor engine bearings — differentiated from TriMetal engine bearings by their darker finish — essentially have a fourth layer to provide increased bearing life protection in race engines and street engines, across a broad range of operating temperatures. This is accomplished by adding to the TriMetal technology the industry’s only moly/graphite, high pressure, high load, dry film treatment for engine bearings. The low friction PTFE polymer base offers extraordinary protection and lubricity. The moly coating puts a thermal barrier between the overlay and the oil in the journal, providing increased lubrication and, therefore, additional protection from friction-generated heat.
These MAHLE components are used to rebuild engines, add power to go racing or increase the performance of a daily driver. It is always a good idea to give the MAHLE tech staff and engineering department a call to help walk you through the process.
The dates for next year’s SEMA Show, which overlaps with the nearby, three-day, AAPEX show (Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo), will be November 5-8, 2024. MAHLE exhibited at both shows in 2023. To learn more about MAHLE, visit https://www.mahle.com/en/.
